breathe: alternate nostril

How To: Alternate Nostril Breathing

Sit comfortably: in a chair or on the floor with a straight back.

  • Exhale completely: through both nostrils.

  • Close your right nostril: with your thumb.

    • Inhale through the left nostril: for a few counts.

  • Close the left nostril: with your ring finger, holding the breath briefly.

    • Open the right nostril: and exhale slowly.

  • Inhale through the right nostril .

  • Close the right nostril with your thumb.

  • Release the left nostril: and exhale through it.

  • This completes one cycle.

  • Repeat this process for 5 to 10 cycles, or up to 5 minutes, ending with an exhale through the left nostril.
