2 minutes

Last weekend I was on retreat with two women whose focus was on restoration.  And did we REST! We did reiki, thai massage, LOTS of restorative yoga, sound baths, and guided meditation.  It made me realize how this retreat was a super charge for their nervous system.  Although amazing, most of us do not have the ability to step away and pause like they did.

Like a long sit meditation, for most of us it's just not a feasible.

This got me to thinking about what are the real tangible ways that I could have supported these women and all of the people around me to balance their nervous system and that brought me to the 2-Minute Meditation.

Meditation is like plugging in your phone.

Can you add a powerpack to your phone and have it add a little juice to get you through the day?  Yes. Sometimes you don’t need a charge and can go days without plugging in.  But having something is better than nothing.  Thus, the 2-minute meditation.  A frequent connection allows us to spiritually plug in to recharge, just like your phone.

Our brains are in a constant state of “to do” and “what’s next?”.  If we can find a rhythm and regularity, we may find that space to let go of the unnecessary thinking. Thus, long sitting meditation times are not particularly beneficial. We just don’t have the stamina to sit there focused on our breath. Our mind wanders faster than a bug can scurry across the floor.  We follow our thoughts all over the place.

But a 2-minute meditation, that yields achievable stillness and focused calm.  It sets the intention to slow down. First, you need a cue.  What is the trigger that tells you- pause.  Is it taking out the trash?  Take 2.  Is it putting the kids to bed?  Take 2.  Finish a meeting?  Take 2.

Join me finding a more consistent practice and tangible state of ease.

This Week’s A Door Within?

  • Are long sit meditations what are actually most beneficial?

  • Do I not find stillness because my mind can’t slow down?

  • Is a 2-minute meditation a better option?

  • What will be my cue to pause?
