heart song
Last weekend my family went to mass. We do not attend church in any regularity, so my boys do not have a full context of a traditional Catholic service. But they were paying attention and a part of the service.
On this fourth Sunday of Advent, the readings were about the angels coming to Joseph and telling him to stand by Mary. The priest, a dynamic man, explained in context to reality of how challenging this would have been for Joseph. Joseph was told- in his dream- to choose love over judgment and a whole lot of risk for this time. He was tasked with accepting three realities. One, the logical evidence that he was not the father. Two, the legal consequence of infidelity which at that time was death! And three, the fact that an angel told him to trust this divine message. Father concluded this connection by urging us to also listen to our hearts, over our heads this holiday season. For this is a true gift of Christmas. Welcoming our hearts deepest desires.
Father asked us to truly listen to our hearts and ask our heart what it is that we truly desire this holiday season. He asked to take a moment of silence and listen to our hearts. My heart in this moment responded, health and vitality.
My seven year old leaned over and whispered to me, “My heart most desires a new shock for my mountain bike.”
I smiled with acceptance, at least he was listening.
This holiday season, I ask you to set aside your headspace and ask your heart, what is it that you most truly desire. It’s okay if it’s a bike shock. Promise, I hold no judgement.
This Week’s A Door Within:
What does my heart most desire?
With heartfelt gratitude,
Ashley
