in action vs. inaction

Have you noticed you are constantly “in action”? So much of our society rewards the never ending to-do list and the constant hustle of all we can do in a single day.  We see social media posts of “What I do as a…”, or sit at another gathering of women where they talk about how busy they are.

Sometimes we are so “in action” that we forget how to just be. Action involves taking proactive steps to achieve a goal, while inaction involves doing nothing and allowing events to unfold on their own.

I invite you to think about an action where you are doing exactly what you love to do, so much so that in doing this activity, your mental space actually turns into inaction.  I experience this when I paint.  I am in action, but as my brush hits the surface, time seems to have no borders.  I can be fully present and absorbed into the task where the creation soon comes alive.

I am IN ACTION.  But my headspace is in a state of inaction.  The Winter Solstice is soon upon us, that moment in time where we are in a state of darkness that begs us to go within and rest.

This Week’s A Door Within:

  • How can we bring more inaction into our lives?

  • How can we let what brings true joy and balance overpower our need to accomplish one more task?

  • Can I choose inaction?
