silence
Summer has been wonderful. It has been full and we have been living our best lives.
But that said, I am ready for SILENCE.
I know we need to experience the contrast to make the changes for the future. Well, this summer has been loud. I now know I need to be intentional about “scheduling” silence.
“Silence is how we catch our breath. Silence is how we hear ourselves think, and also how we can hear the still, small voice speaking within us. As creative beings, we need silence. We need it or we create chaotic art rooted only in the reflection of what is around us, ungrounded in the deeper earth of ourselves.”
This summer has been our first year of traditional school and a traditional school year “summer vacation”. I feel I fell into the trap of lack of time. ‘We ONLY have ten weeks!’ I felt the need to pack in everything I haven't been able to do with my boys all school year into these short few weeks. Lesson learned. I need to spread out the love and excitement of this time and acknowledge how this is not life in balance.
Silence is important for my boys too. They thrive when we all have Silence.
When I started writing this I was thinking; ‘Next summer, I’ll do better!’. Then I paused long enough to realize, NO! There are still three weeks left of THIS summer. I have ⅓ of our summer to do better.
So, today starts our intentional Silence. I am building in time to find stillness and reflection, so that we can be creative and grounded. I know if we practice this for the next three weeks, we will go into our next school year stronger, more balanced and better for it.
I invite you. Find stillness in your day today. There is no need to wait for a New Year’s Resolution or the first day of school or even next summer. Start today.
This Week’s A Door Within:
Does your day need Silence?
If you practiced 20 minutes of Silence each day, how would your day and energy change?
What does Silence look like to you? How does it feel?
What is getting in your way of finding Silence?
