rest

The next six weeks are often a blur of how many activities can we fit into the tiniest window possible.  I invite you to come into this month of December with an air of rest.

How can I rest?

Here are seven ways you CAN. I invite you to choose just one each day this week.

Mental rest  |   recognize decision-making fatigue

  • Do a “brain dump”

  • Block of “no-do” hours or afternoons on your calendar

  • Spread out the daily chores to only a few each day

  • Ask for help

Physical Rest  |  experience gentle movement and sleep to calm the body and mind

  • Set a 5 minute timer and lay still

  • Gentle morning yoga

  • A heated blanket

  • Slow breathing

Sensory Rest |  calm your system by limiting light, noise and screens

  • Close your eyes for 2 minutes

  • Sit in silence

  • Swap a book for your phone before bed

  • No screens for the first 30 minutes of your day

Emotional rest  |  be authentic and process your feelings

  • Resist comparison

  • Spend time with those you love and trust

  • Set boundaries

  • Acknowledge your emotions for what they are

Creative Rest  |  relish in beauty and new experiences

  • Listen to music

  • Spend time in nature

  • Do something just for fun

  • Make something because you want to

Social Rest  |  prioritize alone time and give of yourself honestly

  • Be alone when needed

  • Connect with those you love most in the world

  • Spend time with like minded people

  • Be present

Spiritual Rest  |  connect with something greater than yourself

  • Spend time in nature

  • Read an inspiring text

  • Be reflective and express gratitude

  • Be mindful
