get to

This morning I walked the aisles of the grocery store gathering my basket full of the items I will need for the next few days.  As I was sliding past the many other shoppers- it IS the day before Thanksgiving AND Senior Citizen Discount Day you know- I started noticing peoples carts.  In the cart were the oddest items.  Many with a few odd ingredients, but upon closer inspection, you realize the three loaves of bread, stock and assorted spices are the makings of stuffing.  You see a man with two bags of potatoes, walking past a woman examining turkeys. I looked down at my own ten pounds of carrots.

Today is the hunt for tomorrow's gathering.

In this season of gratitude, I ask you to look at gratitude as a lens of perspective. Instead of “I have to”,  think “I get to.”

As I stood in the long winding line of the check out, I took into perspective how fortunate I am, I GET TO gather and nourish those I love and have the resources to do so.

There is a snow storm with intense northern winds incoming- I GET TO, shovel and curl up next to a warm fire.

As I sit here, writing to each of you I GET TO reflect on how grateful I am to call this work.

This Week’s A Door Within:

  • How can I shift my perspective?

  • What do I GET TO do?

  • How do I share my gratitude with others?
