tapping
This past weekend was lovely. We were home, but had plans to go for a hike in the afternoon. As the day went on, the collective did not want to hike. I did.
Off I went.
Onto a trail not far from my house that is truly my favorite spot to hike. More importantly, it is also where I love to meditate. This one grove of trees for me is magical. On the trail I was moving and flowing as I do. I reached “my spot” and took a seat.
Even though I thought I was calm, relaxed and in my own space- when I went to sit down, I couldn’t settle in. I instantly started tapping. You may ask- “What is tapping?
Tapping in its formal name is Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT. There is an extensive website all about it if you are interested in learning more about the science, experiencing their guided meditations. But for me- it does the trick at calming my body into a space where I can still myself into meditation.
EFT focuses on nine meridian points to restore balance within your energy body. We use two or three fingers to help move the energy of the body. Using tapping, we are accessing our bodies energy system to control our stress response. Yes, walking and moving in the woods is still stressful. My heart rate is elevated, I am soaking in the woods, my body is physically alert. Switching into the still energy body experience of meditation is a shift.
I hear it all the time- “ I can’t meditate… My body is too anxious.” “I can’t meditate, I just can’t slow my brain down enough to be calm.”
Guess what? ME TOO!
Tapping is one of my tools. It is a tool I use to slow everything down, and connect with me.
So, why not try.
This Week’s A Door Within:
How are my stress levels? How would I rate its intensity?
Do I tell myself the story: I can’t meditate because…”
Am I willing to try something new?
To trying something new,
♥ Ashley
