dinner with a view
This month one of my intentions is healthy eating no matter the location. We are at the soccer field two nights a week and leave for family vacation on Saturday.
I place enormous value on family dinners. I think the time together is important as that is where most of our best interactions as a family happen. I love to sit down to the dining room table, light the candles and eat as a family as many nights as we can. I value good food and even better company.
I know that running through the drive through line is an option for a meal, but at what cost? We leave on Saturday for a family vacation and the thought of eating out three meals a day is enough to make my stomach turn into a ball of rock. That is not what is best for us.
I am focusing the next few weeks on finding healthy options, no matter where we are. Isn't it already enough that we are watching our children exercise?
It breaks my heart how many women I listen to state they are out of shape and wanting to eat better. Yet when it comes to their meals, it is what is the fastest line! We are eating high calorie, low nutrition foods, then sitting watching our children. Then our children just moved their bodies and now we put deep fried food in their bellies? This is a major cause of concern for me. I want to do better. I want to fuel my body and theirs with powerful foods. And I think when there is a home cooked element, the extra special ingredient of love is added in.
Last weekend, my boys headed up to Rock Island for an adventure. We met them at a park for a take out pizza picnic and we brought the sides from home. We had an amazing view that was worth the packing of a few salads and the healthy addition of nutrition. Did we have take-out? YES- but with a twist.
I’ll save you the list and know I was a taxi cab. Is this every day? NO. And we choose it that way. But I needed to nourish and place my needs high on the to-do list. What did I make? Leftover salad and veggies from the night before and the end of a bag of tortilla chips.
Tonight we are back at the soccer field, and I am going al fresco. Want my “How To” I sent along my packing list.
Some days our view is a fabulous scenic vista, others is the soccer field. Either way, my priority is nourishment.
This Week’s A Door Within:
What do you value and how do you prioritize that as a part of your week?
How could you work your needs into everyday living?
