trip or vacation
This week my family is driving cross country for the quintessential All-American road trip to Grand Teton and Yellowstone.
When I tell people we are heading out, they say, “Enjoy your trip!”
I am writing this before we leave, and am acknowledging the difference between a trip and a vacation. There is 23 hours of driving ahead, daily itineraries packed full of vistas, hiking trails and excursions. This is definitely a TRIP.
Last year, in Western New York State I fondly remember my husband asking- “What are we doing?” I responded, “I am painting, the boys are fishing and then I am going to read my book. You can do whatever you want.” He looked at me with awe. “I think I’m going to take a nap!” VACATION.
Both are valuable, and both have their place. I am so excited to load up the mini-van, explore these “young” mountains with my boys and watch Old Faithful blow! This trip is one of a lifetime and a place in America that I believe everyone should visit. I am so grateful my family can explore our natural lands and see the expanse of the plains.
Maybe next year we will take a vacation, but for today, this trip is exactly what we need.
This Week’s A Door Within:
What is an experience in life that you want?
How can you make it happen!
