Plan B
Yesterday, my mom and I planned a day to celebrate our birthdays and Mother’s Day.
I had what I thought was the perfect plan of all things that she and I would want to do. We are going for a hike in the woods, followed by a make-your-own art workshop, lunch at our favorite restaurant and finally a little shopping.
Plan A quickly went out the window.
In the words of John Lennon. "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans.”
I woke up to pouring rain. We desperately need this slow gentle soaking rain. I know that this will bring the leaves and even more signs of spring. But our hike? Not happening. On to Plan B.
I looked up directions for the art workshop. They still have their winter hours. Once again, not an option. On to Plan B.
We did a little shopping. Explored some new stores and shops that we have never been into. It was a glorious morning, but it’s time for lunch. We drove the half hour up to our favorite restaurant which had opened for the season. We parked in front of the restaurant and were about to get out- it looked closed. Yep, the one day of the week that they are not open this Tuesday. That’s OK we’ll go on Plan B.
We enjoyed a lovely meal together chatting away. Let’s go check out one of our favorite stores. The open flag was flying. Google said it was open. The door was locked. Again, it looks like we’ll need to find Plan B.
We could’ve been disappointed that everything in our best laid plans was not an option, but instead we enjoyed Plan B. Plan B was just as it should be is what actually happened, because that is life.
Even better? We now get a second day together for our Plan A day!
In life we get to choose to be disappointed by the things we cannot control or shift into the possibility of something not yet discovered. What did we discover on our Plan B day? New shops that I think will become favorites and the laughter of how every single plan was no more. When we shift our thinking to the plan that is supposed to happen versus what we expected to happen, we choose to live in harmony with all that is to come. We accept the moment as an opportunity to explore and experience new opportunities. We feel into our flexibility.
This Week’s A Door Within:
How do you shift from Plan A to Plan B?
If your Plan A falls apart, what would your Plan B entail?
Can Plan B be even better?
